The bifurcation of Kerala University led to the rise of University of Calicut in 1968. About and Establishment
University of Calicut came into existence in 1968 as a result of government plan through the bifurcation of Kerala University. The Calicut University has spread its branches to 426 affiliated colleges with 34 postgraduate and research departments.
With the motto of "NirmayaKarmanaSree", Calicut University Distance Education aims at the pursuit of excellence in imparting quality education and research to local communities and students from distant locations. The university is located at Terihipalam in the outskirts of Calicut city. The University of Calicut began its journey in the route of distance education in1981 under the name of 'School of Distance Education, University of Calicut'.
At present, Calicut University Distance Education offers 14 graduate courses, 12 postgraduate courses, in addition to the MBA.
